Dear all,

I am Nguyen Thi Duong Ha, residing at 24 Dien Bien Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, together with  our family, would like to send you the following emergency appeal:

My husband, Cu Huy Ha Vu, J.D. was sentenced by the Supreme Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to seven years in prison and three years of house arrest for “propaganda against The Socialist Republic of Vietnam”. Lawyer Vu has been on a hunger strike for 22 days in jail at prison No. 5 – of Ministry of Security Police,  in Yen Dinh-Thanh Hoa to protest the violation of the law of the supervisor Luong Van Tuyen toward Mr. Vu.

From the day my husband, Lawyer Vu was on hunger strike, starting from 27/5/2013 to now, I have denounced this and reported  it to the National Assembly of Viet Nam, to PresidentTruong Tan Sang, Chairman of National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung, the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front, Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh, Superintendent General of the Supreme People’s Superintending Court  Nguyen Thanh Binh, Minister of Security Police Tran Dai Quang, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the Assembly’s Judiciary Committee, Legal Committee of the National Assembly (attached).  I have persistently asked for intervention on the danger my husband is facing, but to date, no person or agency of authority responds to my desperate appeal for help

Yesterday morning, 16/6/2013, I watched the documentary “Revealing the fakes of Cu Huy Ha Vu “, I was totally disappointed and discontent with the An Ninh TV, as well as the supervisors of prison camp 5, and especially with the covering up of the crimes by the Ministry of Security Police.

The reason for this disappointment and discontentment is : instead of requiring Supervisor Luong Van Tuyen of prison 5to answer to the whole public, whether or not, he has violated prosecuting and enforcing laws in criminal court, and disciplining Tuyen, because he has not responded to any of the accusations Mr. Cu Huy Ha Vu filed against Le Van Chien of trying to harm and kill Vu since 11/11/2012. Precisely because of this, Mr.Vu went on a hunger strike; still there is no response, instead the supervisors of the Ministry of Security Police and prison camp 5 have allowed An Ninh TV to make false documentary clips on how he has been fed and let eating more than other prisoners.

Just as my husband declared on 15/6/2013, I always recommend Mr. Cao Ngoc Oanh, Supervisor Luong Van Tuyen, Deputy supervisors  Nguyen Van Van and Le Duy Sau,who are in charge of K3 of the prison camp, to reply urgently the denunciation of my husband so that  my husband would stop hunger strike, in order to avoid damage to his health and life, as well as the image of the prison in particular, but as you know, my husband is still on hunger strike and waiting, in vain, for a response.

I always request Prison 5 supervisors to urgently reply the denunciation letter of my husband, but Mr. Le Duy Sau claimed that my husband is very fat, about 90 kg! The two issues are totally different, not one!

It is true that my husband suffers from obesity and weighs up to about 94 kilograms before the hunger strike. Until now, with the height of 1.64 m, even if he has lost 10 or 15 kg, nobody who has not met my husband would notice the difference after 20 days of strike, and know that his health is in grave danger. I know for certain that on the 13th day of strike, my husband did lose 6 kg.

Losing weight with doctor’s advice on obesity guidelines for eating, according to a cycle as in a scientific research, is not harmful, but also good for your health. But with my husband, who suffers from a heart condition and high blood pressure as Mr. Le Duy Sau admits, if he is absolutely not eating anything during the many days continuously, how long can he go on ? I start to believe Mr. Sau and others want to see my husband collapse, fall into coma, or have a heart attack, then they may or will believe my husband is truly on a hunger strike. Do you people at prison 5 know that by day 13, my husband had become very weak, his hands had shaken very much and he accidentally dropped hot boiling water onto his belly and got burn from there down to his left groin area ?

More importantly, I always emphasize the fact that the supervisor and his staff at prison camp 5 never think of the obligation of replying to my husband’s denunciation under items 1 and 2 of Article 168, item 2 of Article 169 on criminal law enforcement to let my husband stop hunger strike while it is not too late!

Once more, we are sending another urgent letter, crying out to all countrymen, individuals, local and international organizations, to help save my husband. If this is delayed, it is most likely my husband will be dead in jail in an utmost unfair and cruel act.

Thank you very kindly,

Sincerely yours,

Nguyen Thi Duong Ha
