On March 30, the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights discussed a draft resolution on International law regarding national sovereignty, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs and human rights as part of sessions of the ongoing 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132).

According to National Assembly (NA) Committee for Legal Affairs Vice Chairman Le Minh Thong, the draft resolution was drafted at the IPU-131 that was not adopted due to different opinions.

The draft resolution continues to be raised for discussion and is expected to be ratified at the IPU-132.

“Vietnam significantly contributed to the resolution drafting process at the previous session. International law must be strictly observed in international relations while international law must have correlation and compatibility in national sovereignty.

National sovereignty and human rights must be respected and international law aims to protect human rights. Therefore, Vietnam welcomes the IPU for adopting the important resolution. It is hoped that after being approved, all countries will pay heed to national sovereignty and human rights in a consistent manner”, Thong said.

Vietnam basically agrees upon amendments to the resolution and calls countries to uphold international law, respect national sovereignty, and prevent from doing harm to national sovereignty and interests, Thong added.
