Le Van L., a resident from Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, has suffered many severe injuries after being interrogated by the local police on family’s quarrel, state media has reported.

On Jan 5, L. got drank and quarreled with his wife and their child. The local police detained him to the police station in Dak Ha commune in Dak Ha district and questioned him for hours.

In the late evening of the same day, L. was released and transferred from the police station to his house by a motorbike. When arrived home, he collapsed, saying he was beaten by police officers.

The medical check-up showed that he got numerous injuries, including broken small intestine and jaw, loosening teethes and brushes all over his body, the Nguoi Dua Tin newswire said on its report.

However, Dao Van Thiem, deputy head of the Dak Ha communal police rejected beating the man, saying they just questioned him. Thiem said policemen Pham Trung Doan, Van Manh Trung and Nguyen The Hung were sent to detain the drunken man.

Talking with the reporters, police officer Hung said they used forces upon detention but not during the interrogation in the police station.

L. is among seven Vietnamese people died or suffered severe injuries during police operations so far this year. Le Thanh Son from An Giang and Pham Dang Toan from Binh Dinh were said to be beaten to death by police while at least five others were brutally beaten by police officers.
