An Appeal for Help from the Family of Huynh Thuc Vy

Last night (February 11, 2014), four members of the Public Security Forces pretending to be thugs initiated a rock throwing attack on my father’s home in Tam Ky, Quang Nam Province.

What transpired was as follows.
At 7:35 PM, four young men on two motorcycles stopped in front of my father’s house at Doi 1, Phu Quy Hamlet, Tam Phu Village, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province and threw four large rocks on the roof of the house. These rocks are typically used as highway pavements. Each weighs about 1.5 kg (3.4 lbs). The two largest of these rocks broke through the cement roof of the house and and landed just a meter (3.3 feet) from where my father sleeps. If hit by such a rock, a person would most likely die immediately.
The young men then sped away on their motorbikes after they threw the rocks. Our house sustained numerous damages: its cement roof was broken, some furniture and household goods were damaged. Luckily none of us was hurt.
da gach nem vao nha ong TuanI would like to point out that on April 4, 2013, liquid fecal matters and rotten fish were thrown into our house and on December 31, 2013, my father had his breastbone broken in a vicious beating by Hanoi Public Security Forces right inside their post.
The retaliatory actions that the totalitarian regime has directed endlessly against our family – from beatings that broke my father’s breastbone to my eviction from our rental home in Saigon and last night’s rock throwing attack –  have caused us endless concerns and worries as we look for ways to deal with them.
With this new and dirty repressive technique, I believe the government hopes to achieve two goals. First, it would minimize the arrests and the jailing of dissidents so as to avoid criticism coming from public opinion and the media. Second, it would be able to effectively limit the activities of dissidents who would be kept busy cleaning up and healing after the damages and injuries just inflicted on them.
The attack on Mr. Nguyen Bac Truyen and his arrest just when he was about to get married have made the intent of the government very clear.
This rock throwing attack on our family is just the latest in a series of thuggish activities initiated by the Government of Vietnam and aimed at intimidating our family. Please help defend us by speaking up against these activities.
